F. A. Q.
Why are young professionals as instructors an advantage over traditional, more tenured teachers?
Being in your child's position not too long ago, our instructors understand exactly what it is that causes problems for other students. Our teachers are very accomplished scholars who have mastered the subjects they teach, but understand the struggles of students through both their teaching experience and also in witnessing their peers. They can very quickly identify the source of a student's troubles and then convey information in an effective manner.
How does JUMPSTART differ from tutoring?
The most pressing contrast is that JUMPSTART serves as a precautionary, not as a contingency, plan. Rather than waiting until a problem arises to address it, why not be well-prepared enough to circumvent it entirely? Many of our previous students who received tutoring from us did not seek assistance until a short period before their final exams. Although we were able to teach them the techniques and mindset needed to solve problems, they simply just did not have enough time to study. This is often what separates students who do well from those who excel.
Additionally, rather than focusing only on addressing issues a student currently has with his/her coursework, we ensure that students are equipped with the necessary foundation needed to identify problems themselves, and have the resources to solve them. JUMPSTART also teaches based on a curriculum rather than just helping a student with their current work, because our main focus is to get students ahead instead of just catching up.
We also offer very competitive rates compared to one-on-one tutoring.
What if I just want my child to do better in math, and not necessarily be pushed to be in the top 10%?
Although the purpose of JUMPSTART programs is to gear students into becoming Ontario's top students, we believe that a variety of students across many levels can benefit greatly from our programs. JUMPSTART programs serve as a "prep course", that allows students to make mistakes and learn with us, so that they can get the grades when they matter (in their day school studies).
Why are JUMPSTART programs taught in small group settings?
JUMPSTART programs are taught in small group settings in order to maximize collaborative learning. Having our students in a non-private environment prepares them for independent learning in their regular classroom settings, while still allowing for our instructors to pay careful attention to each student's progress.
How relevant is JUMPSTART to the Ontario's curriculum?
We also derive our course schedule to closely reflect the current curriculum and prepare self-study packages, i.e. homework, in a relevant manner. Homework assignments will be assigned on a daily basis, and are designed to cover each day's learning comprehensively without tedious repeats of the same type of questions. However, students who wish to obtain extra practice by also tackling similar questions are more than welcome to.
